Axle sizing is not based on guesswork or trailer length alone. You will need to measure your existing axle or your trailer setup carefully. You will also want to identify the axle type, weight rating and whether the axle is straight or drop style.
Key measurements include:
- Hub face to hub face, which is the distance from the outside edge of one hub to the outside edge of the other.
- Spring center to spring center, which is the distance between the centers of the spring seats.
Bolt patterns determine which wheels will fit your hubs. Measuring them correctly is essential when replacing wheels, hubs or axles.
For trailers with:
- An even number of lugs, measure from the center of one stud directly across to the center of the opposite stud.
- An odd number of lugs, measure from the center of one stud to the outer edge of the stud directly across from it.
Our trailer wiring types include:

To identify spring hanger locations:
- Measure the distance between hangers on your trailer frame.

Trailer tire size is typically listed on the sidewall of the tire. If that information is not available, tire size can be determined by wheel diameter, tire width and overall height.
